César Medina

Language teacher

I believe that in a world surrounded by technology and innovation, it is crucial for teachers to be receptive and open-minded. I think that if we want to share the world with our students, we must share all of our knowledge, curiosity and humanity.

Knowledge is infinite, that is why I consider great teachers are usually great learners, they never stop searching for tools, methods and practices to make meaningful and engaging lessons that go beyond the classroom. Regarding language learning, I strongly believe that student’s experiences have to be listened and linked with curriculum content, that way, the teacher will come up with more authentic, memorable and enjoyable lessons. Additionally, I am of the opinion a motivated teacher will create a space where everybody will respectfully listen and share their opinions, feelings and knowledge of the world enhancing a safe and positive learning community.

Curiosity is what took us to where we are now. I think we humans are curious creatures by nature, so teacher’s obligation is to nurture and stimulate the passion to learn. I believe intrinsic motivation can help the students to achieve their goals, but it is us, teachers who must keep them willing to learn. Each learner is a unique universe with different interests, needs and abilities, for that reason I try to bring variety to the classroom. I want my students to be active participants in their learning process, to choose, to experiment, and to know themselves better.

I firmly believe that school, education, society and the world are craving for change. Thus, my students need the essentials to contribute with it. I will guide my students on how to be independent, reflective, responsible and supportive. The class must be a place where we embrace, laugh and learn from mistakes, where they make questions and seek answers, where they discover and reflect on their capacities, set goals and encourage and help each other to reach their fullest potential.

Finally, my approach to teaching is humanistic. Thus as a teacher, I am positive, respectful, sincere and supportive. I am dedicated and always in continuous pursuit for improvement of my teaching skills and human quality.
